We are new to this forum and are hoping to make new friends for our 7 1/2 year old son Jason. He has multiple medical conditions ranging from Celiac Disease, Asthma, ADHD, Roaming Allergies and Neurofibromatosis Type 1. For a little boy he has a pretty full plate when it comes to doctors. We have, for the most part, gotten a safe handle on his Gluten Free diet, but it can be pretty tricky with manufacturers constantly changing their ingredients. Let's just say that it never a "quick trip" to the grocery store. Asthma & ADHD are pretty common. Roaming Allergies, now talk about a challenge. He can be okay with milk one day then sick tummy the next. If only it were with just milk. Never a dull moment. Our biggest challenge is with the Neurofibromatosis Type 1. It has caused tumor growth throughout the body. His right leg is shorter than the left and now his left angle bone is almost touching the ground when he walks. He was fitted for ankle braces on Friday and they should be here within 2 weeks. He picked out a camoflauge pattern for them. To make them appealing to him, I focused on the benefits of the braces ~ making him able to run faster and jump higher, now he wan't wait to get them!
If you have a child with NF or another disorder and can relate, or have any advice, tips or tricks to cope with prosthetic braces, please let us know.
